Caroline S’Jegers DJing during a festival set, weaving deep and soulful sounds

Hi, I’m Caroline S’Jegers. A DJ, poet, and mentor for the wild-hearted — and for those returning to softness, authenticity, and truth.

I grew up in a family where mental illness was present. My mother did what she could to hold it all “together,” which often meant there wasn’t much space left for anything else. I became the one who felt it all — the sensitive one, the funny one, the light presence in a heavy atmosphere. I learned to read every shift in the room, to soften what felt too sharp, to bring relief without ever being asked. I rarely needed much on the outside, but inside I carried more than I could name.
For a long time, I thought strength meant being able to hold it all. But I’ve come to see strength as a quieter wisdom that lives beneath the surface. A kind of truth that doesn’t need to perform. And maybe that’s where we’re heading all together: toward a way of living that honors authenticity, rhythm, and connection. A way of being that remembers what it means to be fully human.

From a very young age, I could sense what wasn’t being said. I waited — for adults to become adults, for honesty to arrive, for someone to notice how much I was carrying. But that moment never came. So I stayed strong. I adapted. I succeeded. I shaped myself into someone the world could rely on. But inside, I felt separate. Like I was always watching from the edge, never quite at home.

In 2011, everything shifted. My father fell into a coma. When I arrived, the paramedics were already there — shouting, urgent, overwhelmed. One of them turned to me and asked, “Does he want to live?” Auch, the question hit hard. And inside, I felt it echo back at me...  Do I want to live? Or just survive?

Grief moved in. I started traveling the world. And dance became my lifeline. Movement helped me stay connected to what was real. Music gave shape to what I couldn’t yet name. Poetry became a way to speak what I had spent years holding inside. Slowly, I stopped hiding. Slowly, I began to return.

A dear friend once said to me: “It would be criminal not to share your gifts with the world.” And this is exactly what I’ve come to trust: emotions — when felt — bring us back into connection. And when you remember who you are, you stop trying to become what you are not.

You don’t need to be lighter, smaller, or more agreeable. You need space for your truth — all of it.
And if you’ve read this far, I have a feeling you’re here for that kind of life too.
So this is where my story begins.
And slowly, my rhythm began to take root...

Weaving the Wild Yes

Following the Call

In my journey, I’ve had the privilege of being part of groundbreaking and heart-opening movements...

What began as a whisper - a quiet call toward rhythm - turned into a movement. And I stood at the heart of it, becoming the first female Ecstatic Dance DJ in Europe. But I never set out to be a DJ. I simply followed the call.

My journey into this work began long before I stepped onto the dance floor in Oakland in 2011. It was rooted in a deep love for music and movement from a young age. From the first rhythms that made me feel alive, I felt a longing to create a space where people could both feel free and connected. Where dance could become a form of truth-telling.

As a child, I kept imagining a place where movement, silence, and raw expression could come together — where we could simply be ourselves. That dream stayed with me. It guided years of exploration and growth, until music became the way in. I co-founded Ecstatic Dance Belgium, joined the team at the legendary Club Lite in Amsterdam, and helped create the first Ecstatic Dance Leadership Training in Europe. What began as a small gathering soon grew into a flourishing community - where people from all walks of life could meet, share their stories, and dance their truths. It’s been a wild, humbling journey, taking me across countries, cultures, and inner landscapes I never could have imagined.

As I became a wife, a mother, and witnessed subtle (and not-so-subtle) shifts within the scene, I began listening even more closely to life’s seasons... The rhythm I had once poured so fully into my work started to change. I came to understand that creative leadership thrives not under pressure, but when we give space to the unknown. The messiness of transformation became something I learned to embrace - moving with its flow, allowing it to shape me from the inside out.

Now, I bring all of this experience - my story, my rhythms, my journey - into the spaces I create, honoring the mess and the beauty of expressing who we truly are.

And the more I listened, the more I began to sense a new rhythm - one that wasn’t just about the dance floor, but about how we live, lead, and return to what matters.

That’s where the rhythm of a wild heart began to rise.

"Caroline creates poem prayers through sound and dance.
All seasons and all elements are being touched by the tunes of her voice and music. Heart opening and soul singing."

The rhythm of my work has evolved alongside the rhythm of my life. As I became a mother and moved through deeper phases of creative inquiry, I started to listen in new ways. What once called for momentum began asking for pause, integration, and trust in the unknown. I came to understand that creative leadership flourishes not through pressure or performance, but through presence. Through allowing the not-knowing to shape us. Through moving with the mess - not around it.

My work began to deepen. What I once offered solely through dance floors and large gatherings started to grow roots in mentorship, ceremony, and intimate forms of creative leadership. I now support people who hold space for others - artists, facilitators, ceremonialists, and guides - helping them refine their vision, deepen their presence, and embody the work they are here to offer.

I’ve spent over a decade shaping the conscious dance movement - co-founding Ecstatic Dance Belgium, supporting the growth of international communities, and becoming the first female Ecstatic Dance DJ in Europe. A key figure of Ecstatic Dance in Belgium and The Netherlands, I’ve helped guide the first Ecstatic Dance Leadership Training in Europe and was part of the core team at the legendary Club Lite in Amsterdam - a space that became a heartbeat of the international scene.

Rooted in ceremony and storytelling, my dance journeys invite participants to explore, remember, and co-create. Each beat, breath, and movement becomes a gateway into presence - a return to what is most alive. With a soulful and uplifting approach, I weave together ceremony, constellation work, and embodied awareness, guided by the knowing that dance is a powerful language for coming home to ourselves.

* Skin to earth. Breath of life. Roots of joy. *

My debut album Birthing a Forest reflects my dedication to raw beauty, co-created with wonderful artists such as Carrie Tree, Mitsch Kohn, Kevin James, and Uria Tsur. The album blends spoken word and music, guiding listeners to reconnect with their inner selves. My work bridges cultures, global issues, and the rhythms of life - inviting people to return to their roots while embracing new possibilities. Through every offering, I create spaces that foster connection, growth, and the magic of shared creation.

With a background as a psychologist (BA) and cultural anthropologist (MSc), I have spent many years exploring the deeper healing aspects of dance across cultures. Long before I stepped onto an Ecstatic Dance floor, I was already drawn to the ways movement and ritual weave through human history - studying, attending, and embodying dances and ceremonies around the world as part of both my academic path and personal inquiry.

A pivotal moment came in 2011, during a dance in Oakland, California, where I encountered Ecstatic Dance in its raw, community-rooted form - a practice with origins in Hawaii and inspired by conscious movement lineages such as 5Rhythms. That same year, I began studying with Soul Motion teacher Michael Molin-Skelton, whose poetic approach and deep presence helped shape my own way of weaving music, movement, and meaning. My work blends presence, poetry, and storytelling with an embodied understanding of the body as a vessel for truth, remembrance, and return.

Over the years, I have collaborated with artists and visionaries from around the globe - including Rising Appalachia, Ayla Nereo, Nessi Gomes, Mirabai Ceiba, and many others - co-creating transformative events that bring people together through music, movement, and shared intention.

I am also the voice behind Weaving Circles Podcast, where I speak with groundbreaking visionaries making a meaningful impact in the world. Through Heart of the Dance, I continue this path alongside my colleagues Tom Goldhand and Léon Beckx, offering facilitator and DJ trainings that deepen our connection to the body, expand practical skills, and nurture intuitive, heart-led leadership.

Rhythm of a Wild Heart

Caroline S’Jegers and her husband — shared love, life, and creative path

Returning to the Land

As a mother of two sons, my life is deeply shaped by experiences of free birth, sustainable living, and soul-led parenting. Together with my husband, Josse Horsten - a regenerative educator and founder of Eetbaar Landschap (Edible Landscape) - we spent seven years immersed in a permaculture community. After three years of traveling as a family, we are now preparing to settle again, weaving together our passions for dance, regenerative living, and community.

Our dream is to cultivate a life where our beautiful earth is our teacher, and where learning unfolds through play, presence, and the timeless crafts passed down from hands to heart, and from land to life. Our dream is where rhythm meets soil — nurturing both the land and the soul.

Through the gatherings I guide - from ceremonial dances to intimate mentorship - I carry this same vision: to create brave and nurturing spaces rooted in listening, beauty, and reciprocity. Where we give back - to the earth, to each other, to what sustains us.

One dance. One breath. One remembering at a time.

The Dance Beyond Us

Life starts in silence. In a breath shared without words. In a song that moves someone to tears. In a dancer, eyes closed, returning to her rhythm. Our talents ripen in the dark - like seeds beneath the soil, soaked in softness, shaped by time.

Over the years, this path has grown beyond me. What once started as a quiet whisper became a pulsing movement - carried by others, shaped by many, felt in circles across the world.

And now, I offer you a place in that circle.

Maybe you're at a threshold. Maybe something inside is stirring - a sense that it’s time to return to what matters most. I know that place. I’ve stood there too. Life moves in cycles. We all go there - again and again. Those in-between spaces, where something has ended, and the new hasn’t fully arrived. Where nothing feels certain, and everything feels alive. These moments carry medicine. They ask for patience, for trust, for presence. They are not here to be rushed - they are here to reshape us.

So here’s my invitation:

Come closer.
Come just as you are.
Come if you're ready to create from truth, to lead from deep listening, to tend your wild and tender heart.
